The Surf City crew wrangled up a new venue way up in the hills above Santa Cruz. There they found the CAL FIRE Training Facility along Empire Grade Road. The course wound its way in and around the facility on gravel roads, dirt roads, single-track, and freshly graded field. Those freshly graded sections turned into dust baths for all. Not a face wasn’t plastered with layers of brown after rolling through the finish. But it was all worth it as the course offered up plenty of action and made for some fast hard racing. ...

The Men’s Singlespeed A category spins away at the 3rd race of the 2013 Bay Area Super Prestige Series. This afternoon race sets the tone for the later evening races. Already the light was starting to dim and the course features beginning to fade. Luckily for this category there was still enough light to see the tricks of the terrain. ...

The Kitten of Vallejo returns again to Dan Foley Park in Vallejo, California. A course with a great mix of terrain, swoopy grassy sections, sand, hills, pavement, and a mix of other surfaces. All of this under the watchful eyes of roller coasters. More info here: norcal.cx/kitten/

Final race of the 2012 Santa Rosa Cup Cyclocross series. Mother nature decided to join in on the fun and brought with her rain and cold temperatures. The new venue, Window Oak Winery, handled it well and provided a fun rolling course. Although the infamous Sonoma mud and grass sucked the energy faster than the wine being sipped by the spectators. ...

Last race of the 2012 Surf City Cyclocross series. Signed up for the single-speed race and got myself whooped. Steam must be running out after two days of racing. Still, it was a fun, sloppy course with some very tricky sections. And three evil slick run-ups that were the nails on the coffin for me. ...

Final event of the 2012 Bay Area Super Prestige Series. Here’s the singlespeed A men’s category doing battle on this tough course. The combination of long flat sections and a few short steep climbs makes it tricky to pick the right gearing. Too easy and spin out in the flats. Too hard and choke on the hills. Oh, and the previous rains created a few soft sections which added to the suffering. Ah the joys of racing! ...

Watch the singlespeed A men on the start and first lap of the 4th race of the Bay Area Super Prestige Series. The event was to be held at Golden Gate Park but a last minute decision forced a switch over to Candlestick Park. Luckily the weather helped out and dumped a lot of rain in the days before the event. This softened the ground, brought out the green, and made for an enjoyable course. ...
