Mig created a monster with this version of the 2017 Grasshopper Adventure Series Super Sweetwater event. To add to the fun, Mother Nature brought rain to the party. And if it wasn’t raining it was misting. And cold. And then there was a lot climbing. But there were two route options this year. The first was the classic route that included the dirt and river crossing of Old Caz. This totaled around 70 miles and 9000 feet of climbing. Then there was the alternate all road option for those afraid of getting their booties dirty (insert sad face). This had 78 miles and 7163 feet of climbing. ...

A little late in the season but the timing worked out well. The fog rolled in the night before and the temperature was perfect for the 2015 Annadel mountain bike race. Caught a few moments here and there from the race. Battery gave up the ghost shortly after the Lawndale descent. Always a good time at this event. Bike Monkey does a great job running this and all their other events. ...

2015 Boggs Funduro More pictures here: 2015 Boggs Funduro I raced all three days and enjoyed and suffered the whole time. The new 8 hr course was a blast but definitely a butt kicker compared to the previous year’s. The hill climb hurt and then came back to remind me through the ache in my legs and lungs. The Super-D was a screaming great time. The social side of the whole weekend also eases the pain of the racing. Bacon hand-ups, BBQs, random camp fires, lots of great people, it all rocks. ...

The mountain bike racing season is wrapping up and what better way to send if off than the Annadel XC race. And this year the weather was playing along and kept the fog around later than normal. That gave us a nice cool feeling for the blistering fast start. It wasn’t until heading up through the middle of the park when the sun really started to pop through and begin the slow roast. No matter! It’s racing and it’s a blast. ...

Had the chance to head to Sonoma for the 2nd race of the 2014 Lake Sonoma Series. This is a very fun but tough event. The riding there consists of single-track and fire roads. The single-track is a blast but tricky, rocky in places, with loose gravel, and thick dry grass. Oh, and the climbs are short steep and punchy. The promoters put together a great deal with the race and a BBQ and drinks afterwards. Always a fun crowd of all categories mixing it up. ...

Vermont NCS Downhill Just found this photo of me from 1997? during the NORBA Nationals downhill race at Mount Snow Vermont. That’s my Intense M1 and one of the first inexpensive long travel forks (6"!) from Zzyzx. That was a tricky fun section of the course where we dropped down a fire road and then cut off right over a small hump. The speed and trajectory caused you to float sideways and almost off the course. In the photo you can see the launch point to the left where the grass is kicked up. I’m a couple of feet off the ground at this point and drifting to the left. Wow that was fun…

And I’m thinking about mountain bike rides… Downieville Classic XC 2012 And it’s cyclocross season so rain is wanted… right?

The Bike Monkey crew has done it again. This year’s Annadel race was a blast. Crazy fast road start from downtown and straight over to the park. Lots of great single-track. Some ripping fast descents. Weather was nice to us. And at the finish there was beer and food waiting. Great job everyone! ...
