The Bay Area Super Prestige Series started out in the dark this year with the Sierra Point Night Cross race. I jumped in with all the other single-speed A oddballs and filmed the first lap. Contrasty, bumpy, dusty, twisty, and fun.

The Bay Area Super Prestige series finished at the popular Coyote Point venue. Although the coyotes have long since been run out, the racers did their best to roam around in packs, chasing and gnawing on each other’s heals.

The course offered up the familiar short steel hill at the start, a new sand section that messed with everyone, the beach that was now rideable, long flat fast sections, the gravel pit of shame, and a bit of grass here and there.

Here was the second of a two day race weekend for the BASP Series. The weather held out and conditions were great at Candlestick. Rain earlier in the week gave the course tacky conditions with only a few soft spots.

The BASP series returns to Candlestick for two days of racing. The crew spread the fields out across the two days so as to give every category it’s own race, no stacking of categories, no mixing with chum, a mano y mano battle amongst your peers.

Here you can see the Masters 45+ A Men hit the course flying. This is a tough field and always a good group to watch.

This is the always popular night race of the Bay Area Super Prestige cyclocross series. The fields are always large and the crowds pile in to watch the action. And the action on heckle hill is something to behold. You may even get ahold of a dollar handup!

Watch the single-speed men hit the course at the twilight hour. Lost of action and mayhem to keep things exciting.

The start of the season and the first BASP Cyclocross race. This is a first-person-view from the Master 45+ A Men’s race. The course was a little different from previous years. Still lots of technical sections, sand, and bumps, But no more long parking lot paved roadie section.

One more from the 4th race of the Bay Area Super Prestige Series. This one is the old farts that ride faster than you (and me). I’m not sure what’s in the water around NorCal, but the masters racers and now the new round of junior racers are faster than most of the cycling population. Ouch.

Here’s the single-speed A category at the fourth race of the Bay Area Super Prestige Series at Candlestick Park. The course was the best yet after a mid-week shower prepped the conditions for the weekend. No dust, tacky corners, and clear weather made for a great combination.

Final event of the 2012 Bay Area Super Prestige Series. Jumped in for a second race after suffering in the singlespeed category. This time I chased the Masters 45+ A field around. With more than a single gear this course is far nicer on the legs. Plus the sun was out drying things up and the sandy beach section packed up and was rideable. Fun times.

Final event of the 2012 Bay Area Super Prestige Series. Here’s the singlespeed A men’s category doing battle on this tough course. The combination of long flat sections and a few short steep climbs makes it tricky to pick the right gearing. Too easy and spin out in the flats. Too hard and choke on the hills. Oh, and the previous rains created a few soft sections which added to the suffering. Ah the joys of racing!

The event was to be held at Golden Gate Park but a last minute decision forced a switch over to Candlestick Park. Luckily the weather helped out and dumped a lot of rain in the days before the event. This softened the ground, brought out the green, and made for an enjoyable course.
