Race Report :: June 4, 2002 :: Alameda Twilight Criterium Series

Date: June 4, 2002 Event: Alameda Twilight Criterium Series Category: Senior 4/5 Time: 30 minutes Place: 2nd! Both primes! Field: ~30 Another fun evening of racing at the Berkeley Bicycle Club’s (BBC) Tuesday night Alameda Twilight Criterium Series. The weather was cool but nice. Good size group again assembled for the race. My previous week’s finish gave me a lot of confidence coming into this one. After a nice warm-up from circling around the outer roads it was time to start the race. I rolled up to the starting line, the whistle blew, and off we headed. I stuck with my earlier race plan and made sure to ride near the front. ...

Decision formula for variables in life

My friend was having difficulty deciding on her weekend plans because of the “variables” in her life. I thought I could give her a hand by writing a little formula to help her decide. Here it is: Decision Factor = (((boy) / (excuses)) * (expectations) + (hope) - (reality)) / (family obligations) Maybe it can help you. :') Cheers!

But, the twilight races don’t get the field sizes and level of competition as the weekend races. ...

Date: May 28, 2002 Event: Alameda Twilight Criterium Series Category: Senior 4/5 Time: 30 minutes Place: 1st! Field: ~30 The Berkeley Bicycle Club (BBC) has started up their Tuesday night Alameda Twilight Criterium Series. These are really fun short races that are great for training. The course location is also easily accessible from the Alameda/Oakland Ferry. I raced in several last year. They helped improve my criterium skills and provided a fun workout in the process. I have been looking forward to them for this year. So, this past Tuesday I boarded the ferry and headed over to the event. It’s a quick hop on the ferry over to Alameda and then a two minute ride over to the course. ...

Date: May 18-19, 2002 Event: 24 Hours of Adrenalin :: Laguna Seca, Monterey, CA Category: Co-Ed Field: 28 teams Teammates: Sarah L., Andrew H., Dave J., Jason T. Results: 3rd! Total Time: 24:25:43 Total Laps: 29 It was an exciting race. The craziest part was early Sunday morning. First, one of our teammates forgot to wake the next rider. There was panic until we found that our rider out on the lap had realized a goof up at the handoff and just headed for a second lap. We all calmed down and checked the current results. We were down 20 minutes from the 3rd place team. Based on the remaining time, Andrew and I decided to alternate for 4 laps to try and make up the time. At the end of the 4 laps we had caught the 3rd place team! ...

Race Report :: 2002 Sea Otter Classic :: Road Race

That’s a measure of how much work my heart performed getting me through this race. That breaks down to an average of 171 beats per minute. That’s some work. I would imagine that after working that hard my heart would feel sore. It’s a muscle so shouldn’t it feel the same as other muscles? Especially after a hard workout? But it’s not the case. At least not for me. How about you? ...
