Here's the video of the little demo I gave at our user conference: Now only if I could convince work that I need one of these setups for home. I think I could find the space for 20 High Definition projectors, 20 40x20ft screens, and a hive of 21 desktops with top-of-the-line ATI video cards. Oh, and one joystick. :')

With my head buried in the digital I momentarily caught site of the analog. Out my window a large flock of birds was dancing and swarming around the sky. I grabbed my camera and hustled outside to grab some shots. It was mesmerizing watching the patterns formed by the swarming. My head still dragging along the digital I started to think of Boids, a cool application that models bird flocks and fish schools. But then the analog flock would

This question keeps getting asked so I thought I would post the information for easy reference. When doing interval recording with my video camera (DVX100) I use the following formulas for calculating recording. There are two formulas. -- Formula 1 -- Here's an example. If you want record 24 hours and have it reduced and displayed in 1 minute at 30fps then you have the formula: LPF = Length in time per frame. FPS = frames per second TL =

Here are some short videos of 4th of July fireworks set off out front on the street. The San Francisco fog was starting to build up steam and causing a lot of wind. Makes for a better show IMO. Especially when the wind blows one of a burning firework right under the legs of someone lighting another. Or under the neighbors car! Woohoo! Posted the video for the first of the 2004 Central Coast Cyclocross Series. This course was tough for a lot of riders. There were lots of dirty faces, jerseys, and bikes after each race. Also a little blood thrown in to keep things interesting. Check out the video and go for a virtual ride. Just don't come crying back to me when you crash! :') Jump to my Videos->Cycling section for the video. Cheers!

Our mayor hosted this DFL race in the spacious backyard of his Pacific Heights mansion. He's a strong supporter of cross and wanted to participate in one of the infamous DFL races. See if you can spot him ripping up the course in a pretty little dress. Jump to my Videos->Cycling section for the video.

[ click image for the video 3.25mb wmv ] Filmed a great sunset last weekend up near Salt Point on the Northern California coast. Thought it would make for a nice time lapse video. Then I found a great song to go with it and turned it into a music video. Click here for the WMV (3.25mb) or here for the Quicktime MOV (4.2mb). Capture details: I filmed this using a Panasonic DVX100a in 24pn mode, manual focus, manual iris,

[ click for the video 3mb wmv ] Just a short clip from the Cat 4/5 Race. I filmed the first corner to try and capture the action of the pack as it raced past. In the second part of the video I have slowed down the first part to 1/6th the speed. Interesting watching the riders pass by in slow motion. [ click for the video 1.23mb wmv ] As I mentioned in an earlier entry, we spent the weekend up in the Sierras on a back country hiking trip. The Sierras are full of granite. It's a very hard and rough rock. Perfect for climbers looking for that challenging pitch. But, not so perfect for a poor dog's paws. Too much time spent scrambling along on the granite will wear the pads off. So, Hairy got a gift. A new

[ click for the video 2mb wmv ] Spent the weekend up in the Sierras on a back country hiking trip. Ran across this nice little Northern Pacific Rattlesnake. Our dog was very interested, but luckily was kept well away. We ran across one more rattlesnake on the hike out. Having lived in Arizona and constantly crossed paths with rattlesnakes, the rattle sound still raises my adrenaline. A dry leaf getting caught between the front tire and fork brace on

[ click for the video 2.9mb wmv ] This is a quick little time lapse video of the Larkspur ferry ride from Larkspur to San Francisco. It's also an experiment in creating a time lapse using digital photos instead of a video camera. I captured each of the images using my Canon Powershot G3. I simply took photos every 20-30 seconds. The next step was to import the photos into the computer and place them in their own folder. In

[ click for the video 2.29mb wmv ] Here is a little video I made to play around with my Panasonic DVX-100a, depth-of-field focusing, and editing with Combustion. I filmed the racers in front of a bright green piece of poster board. Then I was lucky enough to have some interesting cloud movement and captured that for the background. Brought the two clips into Combustion and used the Keyer to merge them. My poor machine is a little too slow

[ click for the video 3.1mb wmv ] Here's a little music video I made so I could learn green-screen compositing and using After Effects. I bought some bright green construction paper from the drugstore and built a small stage with it. Then I lit the "stage" as best I could with various lights I had around the house. The first attempt created too many shadows which made the compositing difficult. The second attempt reduced most shadows. I then filmed

[ click for the video 0.8kb wmv ] Here is a short video of my second bungy jump. It's from a deck called "The Ledge" up on a hill above Queenstown, New Zealand. This time I chose to run off instead of leap with my feet bound. This was a bit harder than the first jump. The actual act of forcing yourself to run off of a ledge really goes against your internal will to survive. In my previous jump,

[ click for the video 1mb wmv ] Here is a short video of my first bungy jump. It's from the Kawarau Bridge just outside of Queenstown, New Zealand. I really wish I had had a helmet camera when I was there. That would have made for some great footage. If you have never tried bungy jumping, I highly recommend it. The thrill is unbelievable. As you go through life you become less and less exposed to new and exciting
