(click photo to view gallery) The photo above is the 2008 course in 3D. Not a flat course! :') This was my first time racing the Shasta Lemurian. Yes, yes, yes I know... you are thinking WTF??? The first time??? I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to actually attend the event. But I'm hooked. You would think though, after I was eaten up by the course, that I wouldn't want to race it again. Here's a course

Ok, here's my painful race report. Nothing to write home about :') I did the Bariani road race just north of Winters. First RR of the season and it cooked me. Well, I cooked myself actually. It was cold and windy (25mph steady gusts). Got there a little late for a warm-up and only had about 5 minutes to get the blood flowing. I've done this race before and knew that it would be important to be ready for the

Event: 2007 Carrera de San Rafael Criterium Category: M35+ 1/2/3 Place: Pack Team mates: Bill S. Another really fun event and at the venue where I did my first criterium. I won a prime that time. Ah, those were the days. Well, back from dream land and into the reality of this year's race. I spotted Mike "Vanderhoot" up on the podium warming his chops for his announcing role. I told him I would be easy to spot since

(Click image to see animation) We are losing one of our great bay area racers to that oxygen depleted state of Colorado. This past weekend's Pilarcitos CX Finals was Lauren's last local event as a bay area resident. We wish her well in her new adventure and may she kick some butt up there in the mountains as she did down here on the coast!

(Click to view large image) Date: 10/22/2006 Race: Pilarcitos Bay Area Super Prestige :: Race 2 Category: M35+ A Time: 47:13 Teammates: Ron G This location gets better and better. The course that is. The abused park, acres of desolate parking lot, garbage, a-holes that break into people's cars, etc etc etc sure make this another ying and yang course. Ignoring the bad, let's focus on the good. We (SyCip) held a CX clinic at the race site on Saturday.

Some really bumpy nasty dry dirt and grass to rattle all fillings from your mouth. And a schweet smooth and fast velodrome to rip up and practice your banked high speed turns. In between... well... there was something in between those two sections but

This course is unbelievably fun and you don't want to stop! 2. This course hurts like heck and you want to stop as soon as possible! Ok, contradictions aside, this is one of my favorite mountain bike races. The course has an incredible mix of trails.

I'm sorry but there was no excuse for the timing problems at the Sea Otter Classic. To put it bluntly, the organizers, the timing "officials", and the USA Cycling "officials" f*cked up beyond belief. The Sea Otter Classic is supposed to be a professionally run racing event. Being a racing event, timing of the athletes is one of the most important factors. I do not have to go into why. I raced in three events at the Sea Otter. In

Date: February 17, 2002 Event: Cool Mt. Bike Race Category: Veteran Laps: 2 Miles: 20 Place: 5th Bring on the cold weather and lots of rain! :') That tends to be the way it is at the Cool Mt. Bike Race. I left the bay area at 6:30am with Sarah and Jason (two other "cool" racers") and headed up to Cool (down highway 49 from Auburn). Rain, clouds, and fog the whole way up. Chain alerts flashing on the warning

Here is the video from the 2001 Vineyard Cyclocross Race at Domaine Chandon. To experiment a little I decided to film this race with the camera pointing backwards. The shots are almost what I expected. The angle was a little too low so I will need to aim higher next time. At first you might think the video is an ad for Camelbak. Maybe they should sponsor this one? :') Let me know if you like the video filmed aiming

I was gone all last week, vacationing down at Joshua Tree National Park. If you haven't been there then I highly recommend visiting. Now that I have returned I've been able to edit and post the video from the 4th Surf City Cyclo-X race. This race was held at Aptos High School in Aptos, CA. It's just a few miles south of Santa Cruz. To give racers in a class other than my own a chance to be filmed, I

The rain has arrived in Northern California, much to the delight of all the sick and twisted cyclocross racers out here. Yes, there were people wishing for rain last Sunday at the 3rd Central Coast Cyclocross race. I guess racing at lactic threshold, running up steep slippery hills, flying around sand covered corners, and hurtling over barriers just isn't enough for these folks! Well, luck was with me and no rain appeared for the event. The prior days rain prepared

The 3rd Surf City Cyclo-X race was held at the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds in Watsonville, CA last weekend. I once again braved the masses and filmed the Masters 35+ "A" race. Watch me suffer. Watch the poor mountain biker get dropped on the flats. Curses to all those cyclocross bikes! :') Click on the links below to view the videos. Use the Cable/DSL links if you have a fast connection. Some requests from "friends" have come in asking me to post the crash I had during the race. Little washout caught on film for all you blood thirsty viewers. A guess it's appropriate being Halloween is so close. Click on the link below to view the video. Use the Cable/DSL link if you have a fast connection. Otherwise, use 56K Modem for slower connections. Note, if you plan to view the video more than once, please download and save the

Back to Rodgers Ranch east of Livermore for the 3rd East Bay Cyclocross Series race. The location is commonly described as the "dump" among the cowpies. Aptly named because the start finish is used as a dump for assorted piles of dirt, rock, wood and other detritus. The cow pies are from our friends grazing on the ranch in which the course traverses. Being so far east of the foggy bay, we managed to reach the edge of the clouds

I recently purchased a helmet camera so that I could capture some of the riding and racing I do. Here is a video that I captured at the Surf City Cyclo-X race in Monterey, CA. The video is of the first lap from the Masters 35+ "A" race. I have broken the video into a series of six clips. Click on the links below to view the videos. Use the Cable/DSL links if you have a fast connection. Otherwise, use
