(Click to view large image) Date: 10/22/2006 Race: Pilarcitos Bay Area Super Prestige :: Race 2 Category: M35+ A Time: 47:13 Teammates: Ron G This location gets better and better. The course that is. The abused park, acres of desolate parking lot, garbage, a-holes that break into people's cars, etc etc etc sure make this another ying and yang course. Ignoring the bad, let's focus on the good. We (SyCip) held a CX clinic at the race site on Saturday.

(Click to view large image) Date: 10/8/2006 Race: Pilarcitos Bay Area Super Prestige :: Race 1 Category: M35+ A Time: 47:03 Teammates: Ron G, Mike M This course was the ying and yang of racing surfaces. Some really bumpy nasty dry dirt and grass to rattle all fillings from your mouth. And a schweet smooth and fast velodrome to rip up and practice your banked high speed turns. In between... well... there was something in between those two sections but

Along came a spider and... oh, that was another post. Went for a great mountain bike ride down in San Jose. At one of the stops my Camelbak attracted the interest of this little furry critter. I guess even spiders endorse Camelbak! Once satiated our little friend scurried off. Buh bye little furry one.

Date: 23 April 2006 Event: Napa Valley Dirt Classic Category: Expert 40-44 Result: Oh, let's just say I finished :') My buddy Larry convinced me to register for this race. He mentioned that he had already registered and that got me thinking. I've been recovering from a sprained ankle and have only been back on the bike one week after three weeks off. So my fitness was at zilch. But this race is just plain a screaming blast. What to

Date: July 11, 2004 Event: Albany Criterium Category: Master 1/2/3 Place: back of the pack Field: ~45 Team mates: Scott Francis Had a good race... The M35 1/2/3 started out fast as usual. I had too short a warm-up (15min) and had to sit in for a bit. Scott and I had spoken briefly about a strategy. If I was able I would jump to the front around 4 laps to go and set him up for a lead out

Here's a shot outside the hospital (Clinica La Esperanza a Vitoria) where Joseba Beloki was brought just after his terrible crash during stage 9 of the 2003 Tour de France. I was in Spain for a riding camp and was on a day trip over to the city of Vitoria/Gasteiz. On passing by the hospital I noticed the ONCE team car and the group of people hanging out. Well, I knew that Beloki had been brought to Vitoria, his

[ click image for a full-size version ] Cycling in the Basque region is a wonderful experience. There are kilometers and kilometers of low traffic roads. On this day we were making a counter clockwise loop around Gorbeia. This photo looks back up a foggy valley after a long descent. I wish I could remember the exact location. It's north east of Gorbeia.

I just got my 2004 Tamarancho trail pass. It's been a couple of months since I road those trails. This motivates me to get my butt over there and have some fun. Maybe a little video of the trails is in order? Check out the Bicycle Trails Council of Marin site for information about the trails and how to obtain a pass. Well worth it for anyone that rides frequently in the Marin area. Sad though that we have to

The summer is starting to give itself up for fall and that means cyclocross season is approaching. Over in Europe they have officially started their season in Zolder, Belgium (cx world). I brought out my beautiful Sycip cyclocross bike and took it for a long spin over in Marin. Rode to the top of Mt. Tamalpais via Rail Road Grade. Then across and over to Rock Springs. Bombed down that as best as is possible on a cx bike.

Or maybe I should title this "What's your problem? Look at Tyler Hamilton!" Back at the end of May I busted my left clavicle (collar bone). You can read about it here "Broken Clavicle". It's been almost 3 months and everything seems to be healed up fine. I have a nice little bump where the ends of the bone have fused together. The long portion never pulled itself back down and it now doesn't align with the small end. Thus

I recently built up a new cyclo-cross bike. The components a mix of old and new. The brakes are a set of Avid Tri-Aligns off of a previous mountain bike. These are really sweet cantilever brakes that are perfect for cyclo-cross. When I went to mount the brakes, I found that one of the arms was missing a bushing. I searched high and low but could not find it. What to do? These brakes were no longer in production. It

Oh the joy of a new bike! It all begins by waiting patiently as the frame is hand crafted from raw materials. Then a little longer as a shiny new coat of paint is applied to its body. Following that comes the stork, delivering your fresh happy baby. Oh joy! But we need to outfit our new treasure. Hours of pouring over catalogs, dropping into bike stores, talking up friends about this component and that component. The time spent pondering

I just posted the high res video for the Women's category from the Central Coast Cyclocross race #2. You may find the video on my Video Gallery page. Note, I had some problems with the helmetcam. It wonked out (technical term :') and the colors were all messed up. Half the video was missing one of the primary colors. So I worked around it by making the helmet cam portion black & white. Therefore, this will be the retro video.

So the other day I got a flat on my training/commute rear wheel. It blew up about an hour into a spin on my rollers. Then on Saturday I got a flat on my road ride. So yesterday, before leaving for work, I pumped up the rear wheel (the one that blew on Saturday's ride) and a minute later it blew up! I'm still home so I decide to replace the tube in the training wheel. Do that and then

Check out Dave Carr's website The NVV Cyclocross Circuit. It's a wealth of information about cyclocross. You will find interesting items like the discussion thread about cyclocross and road overtraining. Who to believe? Richard Fries, Joe Friel, or Rene and Kendra Wenzel? You decide. I recommend the site!

Here in San Francisco, a little over a year ago, we lost a fellow cyclist to road rage. You might remember when this tragedy occurred to Chris Robertson. You can read more about the tragedy in this article "Cyclist Run Over and Killed By Big-Rig Truck in S.F.". And here is a site dedicated to the details. Sadly, the driver was able to get away with minor charges for running down and killing Chris. In Chicago, cyclist Tommy McBride was
