Let's sum this race up quickly.

Ouch.

This race is belittling. Every year it comes back around and smacks me upside the head, and arms, and legs, and any other part that can ache. There are few races in which I exert myself so much that I feel an actual shutdown of my entire body occurring. It's a strange energy sucking feeling reminiscent of an old Star Trek episode. An episode where an alien attaches its tentacles to that poor random crew member you know is just-going-to-get-it, and sucks the life right out of him.

Think of the Sea Otter cross country race as one of those episodes. Everywhere you look are poor random crew members that you know are just-going-to-get-it. I myself was hoping to be a lead character. Of course I wanted to be Kirk. He always wins the fight and smooches with the random hot space girl.

Well, this time I was cast playing someone other than Kirk, probably Scotty or Chekov. I beamed down with the team, battled the beasts, took a few knocks, and I survived. But I wasn't the star. So now I must wait for next season's Sea Otter episode. I better start working on my lines. Or find another show. Jeesh, I hope I haven't become typecast.

Until then, remember not to be the random crew member or you're just-going-to-get-it.
