Here’s a photo that might force you to laugh and cry at the same time. I keep thinking of the joke “What goes through a bug’s head just before hitting a windshield?”.
This poor bird hit full on into the window, wings outstretched, and left its mark. Nobody was around when the collision occurred. And there was no sign of the bird on the ground below. Maybe it recovered and flew away, although with a little less weight. As you can see from the photos, it expelled some extra “weight”. Maybe that weight kept it from being able to avoid the collision at the last moment. They say it’s dangerous flying with too much of a load.

i hit bambi once in new york. square in the hindquarters. also scampered away into woods, hopefully not hurt too badly. also left a deposit in my broken headlight. i left it there for the insurance adjuster.

I’ve seen something similar occur where the bird was temporarily rendered unconscious, stunned, but “relieved.”
