Here’s one of the billions of snails that would crawl out and about whenever the rain passed through our town in the Dolomites. This one in particular is about 4cm across at the widest.
Our house caretaker Hermann explained that the locals will collect them to make meals. I being a non-snail eater made a face and said “ugh”. That must of translated clearly and Hermann laughed, nodded, and said “Ja ja. Ugh!” We both then had a laugh and watched our not so little friend crawl away.

When I was in Italy I threw caution to the wind and tried a bowl full of little snails served cold. You know, with a little butter and garlic they’re really not bad. You just can’t think about it when you swallow.

Throwing caution to the wind is fine for me if it involves tossing myself of a bridge for a bungy jump. But not when it comes to tossing back slimey snails! :}
